THE BRIEF
Myanmar, Yangon
2016
The gardren school is a project that is located in Myanmar, Yangn. There is an existing school for orphans at the site. The brief that was given was to build a new extension to the current school and also to improve the lives of the orphans. The design of the extension requires me not only to be sensitive to the surrounding context but also to have a clear understanding of their culture, lifestyle and the behaviour of the children so that the design will be catered specifically to the children.
THE CONCEPT
The concept behind this project is to be bridge the exisitng school and the existing school through the use of communal spaces. The orphans will only leave the orphanage at the age of 16 years old, as a result, I would want to strengthen the bonds of the children so that they will have a good time in the orphanage and to add some memorable experience to their childhood, I decided to punture openings on the 2nd floor to allow the trees to grow into the 2nd floor so that it will give the children an experience of "playing among the trees"
